Mammoth had won seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 8-1 to make it eight. They breezed past the Mojave Mustangs to the tune of 55-8. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won seven matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
Eli Ericson produced another solid effort rushing for 68 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing for 105 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 163.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Reed Bassler was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one score on only eight carries.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Mammoth, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of DJ Gray, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Mammoth's defense stepped up as well, laying out Kayden Cook three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gray, Santiago Osnaya, and Micah Painter, who each picked up one sack apiece. Mammoth received some extra help from Gray, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
As for Mojave, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Mammoth is ranked third).
When it comes to explaining why Mojave lost, don't look at Jordan Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and one TD.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mammoth will challenge Immanuel Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Crusaders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Mojave, they will take on Milken at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.17 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
