The Eagle Mustangs will face off against the Owyhee Storm at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eagle 3.8, Owyhee 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Eagle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Mountain View by a score of 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Jacob Ames spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Kristian Fusco was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Zawadzki, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Owyhee faced Mountain View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Storm blew past the Mavericks 13-3. Considering the Storm have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kelly Leak tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Booth, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Zander Jakovac was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Owyhee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted an OBP of .414.
Eagle's record is now 22-8. As for Owyhee, their record now sits at 26-5.
Eagle couldn't quite finish off Owyhee in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
