The Las Animas Trojans will challenge the Rocky Ford Meloneers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Las Animas' favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Rocky Ford has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Las Animas barely beat Buena Vista the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Demons on Wednesday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Logan Servaes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Kree Wallace was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Orion Martinez was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Las Animas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena Vista only posted an OBP of .344.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rocky Ford). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mitchell a 20-0 shutout on Thursday.
Like Las Animas, Rocky Ford also got a great game from a two-way player: Shayne Gonzales. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzales also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rocky Ford is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-7 otherwise. Gonzales was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Penner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Adam Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Rocky Ford's win bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Las Animas, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Las Animas beat Rocky Ford 13-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Meloneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
