Basketball Game Preview: Luray Bulldogs vs. Madison County Mountaineers

After both having extra time off, the Luray Bulldogs and the Madison County Mountaineers will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Luray is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.3 points per game this season.

Luray took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Saturday. They blew past Lancaster, posting a 103-52 win. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Red Devils are ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Luray's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blake Jenkins, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 33 points and five assists. The dominant performance gave Jenkins a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Hilliard, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 19 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Jenkins wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Luray was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Madison County was able to grind out a solid win over Page County last Friday, taking the game 56-45.

Luray's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for Madison County, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.

Luray came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison County in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 51-48. Will Luray repeat their success, or does Madison County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
