Wagner will go up against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial in continuing playoff action on Friday. Averaging 50.67 points per contest, the Wagner squad has been an offensive juggernaut in the playoffs, so hopefully Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial's defense is prepared for a test.
Wagner earned some more postseason success in their game last Friday. They had just enough and edged out Harlan 48-46. The Thunderbirds' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lj Butler, who rushed for 195 yards and three TDs on 19 carries, and Isaiah Williams, who rushed for 205 yards and two TDs on 18 carries. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Williams has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season.
The Thunderbirds' defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the quarterback and embarrassed Harlan's offensive line for a total of six sacks. It was a group effort with six picking up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial was able to grind out a solid win over Miller last week, winning 56-49. Carter Senterfitt went supernova for the Eagles as he passed for 383 yards and four TDs. This makes it three games in a row in which Senterfitt has produced a touchdown.
With both teams having displayed their playoff mettle, spectators can expect a high-quality matchup. Keep track of this and all the high school football postseason action on MaxPreps.com.
