Marshall County is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will square off against Central Magnet at 6:00 p.m.
Marshall County can't be too happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Friday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Loretto. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
Meanwhile, Central Magnet made easy work of Hillsboro on Saturday and carried off a 26-8 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Central Magnet.
Henry Long and Brady Yates made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Long tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Yates pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Long went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Yates went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Long a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Laroy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Elijah Bonner was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Central Magnet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsboro only posted an OBP of .371.
Marshall County got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Central Magnet by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
