Morgantown got a great performance from Maddox Boggs as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Boggs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgantown's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Quincy Joseph, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Washington faced Hedgesville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Patriots blew past the Eagles 11-1. The Patriots' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
Sven Dupree made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also put up a hit, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Washington got a big performance out of Trace Hough, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Landon Brady, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Morgantown's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Washington, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-3.
Washington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Morgantown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Washington, though, as they've only averaged .259. Will they be able to contain Morgantown's hitters?
Morgantown came out on top in a nail-biter against Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2021, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Mohigans repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
