The Marion Warriors lost to Smoky Valley Home Educators back in January of 2022, but the Marion Warriors didn't allow Smoky Valley Home Educators the same satisfaction on Friday. Marion strolled past Smoky Valley Home Educators with points to spare, taking the game 51-37. The win was all the more spectacular given Marion's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Smoky Valley Home Educators is ranked 33rd).
Marion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taryn Kraus, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kraus has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Hett, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Marion is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. As for Smoky Valley Home Educators, their loss dropped their record down to 12-2.
Marion and Elyria Christian will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Elyria Christian is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. Smoky Valley Home Educators will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wichita Defenders HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th.
