Hilliard (Fla.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 29-14 win over
Bell (Fla.).
The Red Flashes put up 21 points in the opening frame. Hilliard scored on a
Josh Conner touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Anthony Anderson and a
Gunner Chaires touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Conner in the first quarter, HHS led 21-6 at the half.
The Red Flashes saw their 15-point halftime lead fall to seven entering the fourth.
Hilliard's standout player in the win was Conner. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
Austin Ritchey played well for the Bulldogs. The junior halfback ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 10 on the year.
HHS came in allowing an average of 20.6 points per game this season. The Red Flashes held firm on the defensive front, and kept Bell well below the 28.0 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 48-14 win for Hilliard.
The defeat comes as a step back for Bell, which notched a 45-20 victory over Bishop Snyder in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for HHS, which lost to Fernandina Beach last week, 37-26.
In a non-conference game next week Hilliard (4-2) takes on Bishop Snyder, and Bell (2-4) will go up against Hawthorne in a 1A District 6 game.
