The Canyon Comanches came tearing into Monday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 60-55 victory over San Gabriel Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Canyon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Goodall, who scored 24 points. The game was Goodall's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Staf Yilmazturk, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for San Gabriel Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Esperanza at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Esperanza has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. San Gabriel Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Capistrano Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Averaging 63.4 so far this season, Capistrano Valley Christian's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so San Gabriel Academy better be ready for a challenge.
