Riverdale Ridge waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They strolled past the Westminster Wolves with points to spare, taking the game 76-61. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-52 back in January.
Dylan Nieto was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Javid Taylor was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.
Riverdale Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Devin Szabelski, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Szabelski a new career-high in boards (four). Another player making a difference was Westley Trout, who posted ten points and three steals.
Riverdale Ridge now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Westminster, they dropped their record down to 7-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Riverdale Ridge will venture away from home to face off against Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brighton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Riverdale Ridge likes a good challenge. As for Westminster, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hinkley at 7:00 p.m. Westminster is facing Hinkley at the right time seeing as Hinkley is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
