Basketball Recap: Oxford Skates Past Smiths Station with Ease

Oxford won the last time they faced Smiths Station and things went their way on Saturday too. The Yellow Jackets claimed a resounding 79-34 win over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellow Jackets.

Oxford was led to victory by TaKayvia Boyd and BriOnna Wilson. Boyd dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards, while Wilson shot 45% from the field on her way to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Those 22 points gave Wilson a new career-high. MiKynlei Mosley was another key player, going 6-for-13 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Oxford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Oxford's record now sits at 2-0. As for Smiths Station, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Oxford will venture away from home to face off against Gadsden City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smiths Station, they will head out to challenge Dadeville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
