After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Flowery Branch, West Hall was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the East Jackson Eagles as the West Hall Spartans made off with an 18-8 victory. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brett Sturm made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3. West Hall is 2-1 when Sturm posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Chase Berger was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Connor Toledo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
