The Air Academy Kadets have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 48-37 win over Cheyenne Mountain on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Air Academy also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
It was another big night for Noah Hellem, who scored 26 points along with two steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Brennan, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Air Academy's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.
Air Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pueblo West at 7:00 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Pueblo West is ranked 122nd, while Air Academy is ranked 139th). As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against Discovery Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Discovery Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
