La Marque has gone 6-1 against Wharton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will host the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, La Marque put up the most points they have all season on Thursday. They breezed past Harmony School of Innovation to the tune of 74-12. Considering the Cougars have won three games by more than 56 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
La Marque's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deuce Walker led the charge by throwing for 247 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes, and also rushing for 37 yards and one TD. Cory Hosea was another key back, rushing for 129 yards and a pair of scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Marque was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harmony School of Innovation only rushed for -10.
Another reason for the win was La Marque's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They received some extra help from Kylan Thomas, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Wharton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbia. While the Tigers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Roughnecks 18-7.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Ja'Keon Jackson and Cade Thoe. Thoe had a great game and threw for 184 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jackson was balling out in the loss, rushing for 172 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
The win made it two in a row for La Marque and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 12 points in those games. As for Wharton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Walker and Jackson. Walker just won't slow down this season and has thrown 13 touchdowns while averaging 242.6 passing yards per game. Jackson has been a dominant force too and has thrown 11 touchdowns (and and only 2 pick) while averaging 117.2 passing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for La Marque against Wharton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 win. In that contest, the Cougars amassed a halftime lead of 28-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
