Baseball Recap: Westlake Gets the Win

Westlake won the last time they faced Lakeland and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Wildcats walked away with an 8-5 win over the Hornets. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Mikey Sica was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Westlake is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise. Sica was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Marcus Jackette was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kieran Murray, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Westlake now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lakeland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westlake will venture away from home to challenge Hendrick Hudson at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lakeland, they will head out to take on Yorktown at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
