The Clover Blue Eagles entered their tilt with the Woodmont Wildcats with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Clover enjoyed a cozy 31-14 victory over Woodmont on Friday. Given Clover's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Woodmont is ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landon Stone continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 204 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 36 receiving yards. Stone's longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. Another player making a difference was Jaylon Hoover, who threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Although Woodmont took the loss, they still got scores from Ezekiel Belcher and Jordan Sink.
Clover's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Spring Valley and 2-9 Fort Mill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.5% over those games). As for Woodmont, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
Clover will square off against Gaffney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jaiden Mcdowell and Stone. Woodmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
