The Carter Green Hornets will face off against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Carter made easy work of Northview Academy and carried off a 24-8 victory. The win continues a trend for the Green Hornets in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.
Jenna Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Carter got a massive performance out of Abby Trull, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Trull a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hailey Evans, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base.
Carter lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cocke County hadn't done well against Morristown-Hamblen East recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Fighting Cocks never let the Hurricanes get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory.
Like Carter, Cocke County also got a great game from a two-way player: Ellie Proffitt. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Proffitt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Cocke County let Adisen Mcnealy and Meredith Grooms run wild. Mcnealy scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Grooms went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Carsie Ellison was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Cocke County pushed their record up to 17-2-1 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carter, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Carter took their victory against Cocke County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Green Hornets repeat their success, or do the Fighting Cocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
