The Morningside Academy Eagles put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Odyssey Charter School for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-28 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Morningside Academy, who have now won three games by 26 points or more so far this season.
Morningside Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emmilina Miller, who scored 7 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Miller is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Giuliana Bonasera, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Odyssey Charter School's loss came despite strong showings from Melissa Mayfield and Natalia DeJesus-Bruno. Mayfield scored 7 points along with 12 rebounds and 3 steals, while DeJesus-Bruno scored 6 points along with 4 steals.
Morningside Academy has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 5-0 record. As for Odyssey Charter School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Morningside Academy will head out on the road to face off against John Carroll Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (John Carroll Catholic: 28.2, Morningside Academy: 22.4) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Odyssey Charter School, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Astronaut at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Astronaut is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
