The Pendleton County Wildcat will venture away from home to challenge the Petersburg Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pendleton County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Pendleton County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Moorefield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Wildcat were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcat, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Baylee Beachler made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Townsend, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Petersburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Tucker County on Tuesday, taking the game 6-1. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Mountain Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Addie Kitzmiller was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Shyane Tawney was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.
Pendleton County pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Petersburg, their record now sits at 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pendleton County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Petersburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pendleton County came up short against Petersburg in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Wildcat avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
