Eufaula and Checotah are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Ironheads will welcome the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eufaula has given up an average of 42.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eufaula's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Lincoln Christian on Friday. They were outmatched by the Bulldogs and fell 62-0. While losing is never fun, the Ironheads can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Bulldogs are ranked fourth).
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Checotah ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Idabel, sneaking past 55-53. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Eufaula better focus on containing Jayden Ellen and Cole Rolland as the pair were huge in Checotah's win. Ellen rushed for 203 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, while Rolland rushed for 207 yards and three scores. Checotah is undefeated when Ellen posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-4 otherwise.
Checotah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
This is the second loss in a row for Eufaula and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Checotah, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-4.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Peter Lee and Ellen. Lee just won't slow down this season and has averaged 125.1 rushing yards per game. Ellen has been a dominant force too and has run in 12 touchdowns while averaging 161.7 rushing yards per game.
Eufaula came up short against Checotah when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 13-7. Thankfully for the Ironheads, Elijah Thomas (who rushed for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
