The Monte Vista Mustangs won the last time they faced the Granada Matadors, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Monte Vista blew past the Matadors 58-36. Given Monte Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Matadors are ranked 573rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monte Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rachel Brans, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists. Brans is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. Alyssa Rudd was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Monte Vista has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Granada, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monte Vista is on the road again on Friday and plays the Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. San Ramon Valley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 21 games. As for Granada, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
