Downriver recap September 24, 2013
Carlson was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fourth in Downriver. The Marauders beat Lincoln Park 54-25 earlier in the week.
Melvindale moved up to 110 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cardinals were able to move up by topping Anderson 48-14.
Roosevelt's dynamic duo of Austin Petravicius and Brandon Sowards proved to be unstoppable against Allen Park, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Petravicius threw for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns and Sowards had 104 yards receiving. Donnie Corley helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 86 yards.
The Bears' dynamic duo of Petravicius and Sowards proved tough for the Jaguars to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Petravicius put up the best numbers through the air as Roosevelt defeated Allen Park.
Sowards was the best wideout in the league this week as Ron Adams' team topped Tom Hoover's team.
AJ Gary was a passing and rushing force as Carlson beat the Railsplitters. Gary's favorite target this week was Zach Kohn, who caught 3 passes for 80 yards.
Gary was a beast in the backfield as Kent Sikora's team topped Lincoln Park.
Gary was the best running back in Downriver this week. He ran for 269 yards on 18 carries as the Marauders defeated the Jaguars. Joseph Enwerejobi also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Roosevelt's Donovan Stewart and Sowards have proven to be a lethal combination. Stewart has thrown for 425 yards this season, while Sowards, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 15 catches for 396 yards. Christian Mercure from Trenton leads the league in rushing with 426 yards.
The Bears are currently in second, while Melvindale is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Roosevelt takes on Jason Carriveau's team. The Bears have allowed 37 points this season, while the Cardinals have given up 27. Roosevelt allowed 23 points last week as it topped Allen Park.
Truman extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Trojans, 66-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
