Norwich Free Academy is 8-2 against East Lyme since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Dakota Bourdon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Norwich Free Academy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Martin, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, East Lyme scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 18-15 to Plainfield. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly three runs.
Natalie Knowlton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Lloyd, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Norwich Free Academy pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for East Lyme, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
East Lyme's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Norwich Free Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. It's a different story for East Lyme, though, as they've only averaged .340. Will they be able to contain Norwich Free Academy's hitters?
Everything went Norwich Free Academy's way against East Lyme in their previous matchup back in April, as Norwich Free Academy made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
