On Friday, the Banneker Bulldogs faced the Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Banneker had just enough and edged Friendship Collegiate Academy out 54-52. This was payback for Banneker, who suffered a 54-45 loss the last time these two teams met.
Banneker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rainelle McNeill, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Malcolm, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Banneker now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Friendship Collegiate Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Banneker will take on Dunbar at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Dunbar is ranked second, while Banneker is ranked tenth). As for Friendship Collegiate Academy, they will stay at home for another game and welcome SEED DC at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. SEED DC's defense has only allowed 25.1 points per game this season, so Friendship Collegiate Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
