The Sahuarita Mustangs's six-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They had just enough and edged Apache Junction out 48-46. That's another feather in the cap for Sahuarita, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Sahuarita found their leader in underclassman Daniel Durazo, who scored 16 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Durazo scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Zack Myhre, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Apache Junction lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tucker Barks, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Barks. Omar Adam was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Sahuarita's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7. As for Apache Junction, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sahuarita will take on Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cienega knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Sahuarita likes a good challenge. As for Apache Junction, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Crismon at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Crismon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
