Football Recap: Independence Piles Up the Points Against Lightridge + How To Watch

Independence won the last time they faced Lightridge and things went their way on Friday too. Independence took their contest with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over Lightridge. The result was nothing new for Independence, who have now won four games by 28 points or more so far this season.

Independence was led to victory by Robert Kellen and Luke King. Kellen rushed for 161 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries, while King threw for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes. That's the most rushing yards Kellen has posted since back in October of 2024. Independence's leading receiver Caidyn Parks was King's top target yet again, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Independence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 400 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 186 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Independence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of David Cage and Kanyon Boyd.

Lightridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Owen Working, who threw for 195 yards and three TDs.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.7 points over those games. As for Lightridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will head out to challenge North Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines' defense has only allowed 14.6 points per game this season, so Independence's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lightridge, they will venture away from home to take on Potomac Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
