Football Recap: St. Vincent De Paul Keeps Maria Carrillo's Under Pressure + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Vincent de Paul had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They beat the Maria Carrillo Pumas by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 42-28. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Pumas: they've now won six in a row.

Gabe Casanovas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 116 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 122 yards on eight of 12 attempts. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. St. Vincent de Paul also got a significant boost from Levi Kennedy, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 121 yards.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Vincent de Paul's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Frankie Monachello, Zach Dunaj, and CJ Perez, who each picked up one sack apiece. Monachello was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Despite the loss, Maria Carrillo still got an impressive performance from Cooper Bluestone, who rushed for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 148 yards on only 12 passes. Bluestone got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 77 yards. Estefan Ramirez was Bluestone's top target, picking up 37 receiving yards, while also rushing for 48 yards and one score.

St. Vincent de Paul's record is now 11-1. As for Maria Carrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Looking ahead, St. Vincent de Paul will take on Ferndale at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Maria Carrillo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
