The Pinewood Prep Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Oceanside Collegiate Academy on the road and fell 72-33. Pinewood Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-18.
When it comes to explaining why Pinewood Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Michael Jones. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. The game was Jones' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Slawson, who scored seven points along with five assists.
Pinewood Prep's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Pinewood Prep is on the road again on Friday and play against Chapin at 12:45 p.m. on December 29th. Chapin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Pinewood Prep is ranked 40th). Oceanside Collegiate Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting North Oconee at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Oconee's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
