The Wilson Bulldogs will challenge the Central Dauphin Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Wilson's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Central Dauphin has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Wilson's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Parkland's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-5 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Jack Gabel made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Kaden Ballas looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Tim Lengle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Nick Herron was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Wilson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Central Dauphin didn't have quite enough to beat Mifflin County on Thursday and fell 6-5.
Central Dauphin saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Richie Mazzatesta, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Another was Brady Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Wilson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Central Dauphin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
