The Salinas Cowboys will head out on the road to take on the Downey Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Salinas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Salinas lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Soledad, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. Salinas put the hurt on Soledad with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday. The Cowboys not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4, 2024.
Jordan Isla made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dezmond Corn, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Quentin Dominguez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Salinas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Manteca.
Jayceon Sloan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Ortega, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Salinas' record now sits at 4-1. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Downey's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Salinas has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Downey, though, as they've only averaged .335.
