The Columbus Discoverers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 47-39 to Norfolk. Columbus was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Norfolk apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Columbus still got an impressive performance from Griffin Micek, who scored 15 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Esch, who scored eight points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Columbus struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Norfolk's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chase Swanson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Drew Streich, who scored 11 points.
Columbus bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Norfolk, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Columbus is on the road again on Thursday and play against Fremont at 7:30 p.m. on January 4th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Coriahnn Gallatin and Micek. As for Norfolk, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burke at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Burke is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
