The Ridgeline Riverhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 23 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Woods Cross on Wednesday as Ridgeline made off with a 76-53 victory. Given Ridgeline's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Woods Cross is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ridgeline's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jagger Francom, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Diego Vazquez, who scored 16 points along with seven assists.
Hunter Jackson and Ben Smith-mecham certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Jackson scored 18 points along with eight rebounds, while Smith-mecham scored nine points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Jackson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Poulton, who scored seven points.
Ridgeline's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Woods Cross, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Ridgeline will finish 2023 at home by hosting Clearfield at 2:00 p.m. on December 30th. Woods Cross will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Kearns at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th.
