Big North - Independence recap October 1, 2013
Passaic Valley scaled the state rankings by moving to 133 from 162 this week, the biggest jump in Big North - Independence. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of besting Indian Hills 41-8.
Passaic Valley took down the Braves 41-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Matt Giacose provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ramapo beat Eastside. Giacose's key target this week was Dylan Bonsignore, who caught 2 passes for 47 yards.
Sean Dougherty threw for 111 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 8-19 with 3 interceptions.
Giacose was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 169 yards on 17 carries as the Raiders bested Bergenfield. Teammate Joe O'Hagan added to the ground attack by rushing for 31 yards.
Ramapo's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Raiders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dougherty has thrown for 671 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while John Goldschrafe has 14 catches for 270 yards.
Bill Johnson's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,409 from 6,038. The improvement was largely due to a 41-8 victory over Indian Hills last week.
