The Morgan Raiders will head out to square off against the New Lexington Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Morgan will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Maysville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Raiders walked away with a 10-6 win over the Panthers on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
The team relied heavily on Jude Garber, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aaron Baker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, New Lexington was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Maysville. New Lexington hasn't had any issues with Maysville recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Clay Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tanner Toth was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Gottke, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Morgan pushed their record up to 4-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for New Lexington, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morgan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Lexington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
