5A West recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Harrison, who defeated 85th ranked Clarksville, 35-6. Michael Evert ran for 164 yards during the win.
Alma extended the longest winning streak in 5A West this week by beating Vilonia, 40-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Toney Hawkins provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Morrilton bested Huntsville. He completed 13 passes for 209 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 68 yards. Hawkins' key target this week was Rayshod Criswell, who caught 8 passes for 122 yards.
Trey Blakley was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Devil Dogs defeated the Eagles. The 5-foot-8 sophomore recorded 1 fumble.
Chris Cox was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 162 yards on 19 carries as Shiloh Christian bested Huntsville. Teammate Chandler Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 139 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Criswell. The Morrilton star has 58 catches for 768 yards.
Evert of the the Goblins is only 82 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Evert has rushed for 918 yards on 184 carries so far this year.
Going into this week's game against the Devil Dogs, Harrison's Brock Humphrey needs 2 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, Humphrey has thrown for 1,998 yards with 21 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Greenbrier takes on Alma. The Panthers are currently in fourth, while Doug Loughridge's team is in second.
Morrilton led 5A West in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on Ken Harriman's team. Hawkins ran for 68 yards in the win.
