The American Canyon Wolves will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
American Canyon is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Wood. American Canyon's pitchers stepped up to hand Wood an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wolves have posted since April 11, 2024.
Royce Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Harris, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Matthew Schmaling was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, St. Patrick-St. Vincent gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 24-0 margin over Drew. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bruins as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Like American Canyon, St. Patrick-St. Vincent also got a great game from a two-way player: Dominic Petersen. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Petersen was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Bo Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Mathew Thacker, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Drew only posted an OBP of .118.
