The Broughton Capitals struggled with assists on Monday (the Apex Cougars had 700% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Broughton took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Apex. Broughton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Broughton's loss came despite strong showings from Kalajah Wright and Kyra Gustus. Wright scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds, while Gustus scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Wright scored a full 31% of Broughton's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Apex's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isabella Pease led the charge by scoring 9 points along with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Another player making a difference was Analiza Whittlesey, who scored 20 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds.
Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Apex, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Broughton will face off against St. Pauls at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Pauls focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday. As for Apex, they will head out on the road to face off against Leesville Road at 6:30 p.m. on November 28th.
