After each having a week off, the West Laurens Raiders and the Beach Bulldogs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. West Laurens will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Thursday, West Laurens got the win against Westside by a conclusive 27-3. Considering the Raiders have won five contests by more than 23 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Ty Cummings, who rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something West Laurens proved: they limited Westside to a paltry 1.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Leroy Mack for the heroic effort on defense: he. West Laurens didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.
West Laurens' defense didn't let Jaylen Stone, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Westside's side was Mack, who picked up a sack and made 18 total tackles.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Beach's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a blow against Southeast Bulloch, falling 48-8. The Bulldogs were down 21-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
West Laurens' record now sits at 10-0. As for Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of the 14th's matchup: West Laurens has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 385.2 total yards per game. It's a different story for Beach, though, as they've been averaging only 247.1 total yards. Will West Laurens be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Bulldogs flip the script?
Everything came up roses for West Laurens against Beach in their previous matchup back in September of 2021, as the squad secured a 35-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
