The Page Pirates will be playing at home against the Northern Guilford Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Page had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past College Prep & Leadership Academy 61-28 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Page has managed all season.
Page found their leader in underclassman Lola Vanore, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vanore has scored all season. Hattie Sloyan was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Northern Guilford put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Western Guilford at home to the tune of 80-25. Northern Guilford's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Northern Guilford relied on the efforts of Leena McField, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Jasmine Harris, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Harris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malena DeLisa, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Page's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Northern Guilford, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Page have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Northern Guilford struggles in that department as they've drained 40% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Page might still be hurting after the 58-38 loss they got from Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Page, Jadyn Newsome (who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
