The Stanton County Trojans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Southwestern Heights with a 53-48 victory. Given Stanton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Mustangs are ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman David Crane, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Alvin Solis was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Stanton County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Southwestern Heights, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanton County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Wallace County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 258 points over their last four games. As for Southwestern Heights, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Larks at 7:30 p.m. Sublette knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge.
