Newcastle and Elgin are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Racers will head out to face off against the Owls at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Newcastle came out on top against Lindsay on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run second inning. The Racers put the hurt on the Leopards with a sharp 13-1 victory. The win was nothing new for the Racers as they're now sitting on 12 straight.
Tyler Frazier was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Lane Seaton, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Elgin got the win against Bridge Creek on Friday by a conclusive 13-5.
Kade Hilliary was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Hilliary was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elgin let Brody Morrison and Ritson Meyer run wild. Morrison went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Meyer went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two hits gave Meyer a new career-high. Graeson Nichols was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Elgin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bridge Creek only posted a batting average of .182.
Newcastle's record is now 15-0-1. As for Elgin, their record now sits at 13-2.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newcastle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .472. However, it's not like Elgin struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newcastle beat Elgin 7-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Will the Racers repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
