Basketball Recap: Hapeville Charter Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kody Brown and Lyndale Roberts

Hapeville Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 62-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while the Warriors are ranked 79th).

Hapeville Charter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lyndale Roberts, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, and Kody Brown, who posted 12 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The contest was Roberts' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Person, who earned six points and five rebounds.

KIPP Atlanta Collegiate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayvon Johnson out in front who put up 18 points along with seven assists and six steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Chane Bynum was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards.

Hapeville Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Hapeville Charter will be playing in front of their home fans against Holy Innocents Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Holy Innocents Episcopal knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Hapeville Charter likes a good challenge. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-55 win against Drew Charter on the 1st.
