The Broughton Capitals will head out on the road to square off against the Knightdale Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Tuesday, Broughton came up short against Cardinal Gibbons and fell 53-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Broughton in their matchups with Cardinal Gibbons: they've now lost seven in a row.
Broughton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kalajah Wright, who scored 17 points along with three steals, and Jane Kern who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Wright is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kyra Gustus, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Knightdale's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 60-22 loss at the hands of Rolesville. While losing is never fun, Knightdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Rolesville is ranked 20th).
Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Knightdale, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.
Broughton might still be hurting after the 58-32 loss they got from Knightdale in their previous matchup back in December of 2017. Thankfully for Broughton, AKIRA WIGGINS (who scored 19 points along with six steals and five assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
