The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maurice Fitzgerald, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 12 or more in each of the last 23 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brelyn Walker, who posted six points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moreno Valley). They really took it to California Military Institute for the full four quarters, racking up a 77-33 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-16.
Pacific better keep an eye on Alijah Maloid. He was instrumental in Moreno Valley's win, almost dropping a triple-double with 23 points, nine boards, and ten blocks. Maloid continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kordell MacKey, who scored eight points along with eight assists and eight steals.
Moreno Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.
Moreno Valley now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Pacific, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Pacific was dealt a bruising 56-24 loss at the hands of Moreno Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Thankfully for the Pirates, Damajay Jackson (who had eight points in addition to nine assists and eight rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
