Basketball Game Preview: Dietrich Blue Devils vs. Richfield Tigers

Dietrich is 8-2 against Richfield since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Dietrich Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Richfield Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Dietrich will be strutting in after a victory while Richfield will be coming in after a defeat.

Dietrich is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Castleford 72-20 on Tuesday. With the Blue Devils ahead 37-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Dietrich's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paje Van Tassell led the charge by going 8 for 16 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and six steals. Van Tassell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Aleigha Robertson was another key player, putting up 18 points and three steals.

Dietrich smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Richfield played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 43-14 loss at the hands of Mackay. The Tigers were down 33-11 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Dietrich will have to contain Malia Kent as she made an impact in Richfield's last game. She posted eight points and six steals. That's the most steals Kent has posted since back in December of 2023.

Dietrich's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Richfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Everything came up roses for Dietrich against Richfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 45-12 victory. In that matchup, Dietrich amassed a halftime lead of 31-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
