Jett Taylor produced another solid effort rushing for 169 yards and five TDs on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging two interceptions. Grand Saline didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Lone Oak to a completion percentage of just 48.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Taylor, Gabe Means, and Cameron Martinez, who each logged two passes deflected. Grand Saline has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.61 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.61 in their last three games.
Grand Saline didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Taylor. Means was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble, making 15 total tackles, and defending two passes.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Prairiland beat Quitman 27-21 on Thursday.
Grand Saline has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.4 points. As for Prairiland, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Grand Saline against Prairiland in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-13 win. In that matchup, the Indians amassed a halftime lead of 35-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
