Basketball Game Preview: Platte Valley Broncos vs. Woodland Park Panthers

The Platte Valley Broncos and the Woodland Park Panthers will compete for holiday cheer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Platte Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.

While Platte Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Fort Lupton 73-10 on Thursday. With the Broncos ahead 47-3 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Platte Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lauryn Uyemura, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 22 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Uyemura's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Koffler, who almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 12 boards, and nine assists.

Uyemura wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Platte Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Woodland Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting South Park an easy 52-32 win. One positive for the Panthers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Platte Valley pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Woodland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything came up roses for Platte Valley against Woodland Park in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as the team secured a 60-33 win. Does Platte Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woodland Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
