The Concord Spiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Lake Norman Charter Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Concord, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Lake Norman Charter's (thus far) undefeated season.
Concord is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were dealt a 77-50 defeat at the hands of A.L. Brown on Tuesday. The Spiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Despite the loss, Concord had strong showings from Taryn Blue, who went 7-for-14 en route to 18 points and three steals, and Khloe Taylor, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 22 points and four steals. That was a full 36% of the Spiders' points, marking the third time in a row Blue has posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Lake Norman Charter really took it to Piedmont Community Charter for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-18 victory. With the Knights ahead 48-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Lake Norman Charter's win came from a few key players Concord will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Reece Long, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards. Her big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 24 points. Another player making a difference was Abby Courtney, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.
Lake Norman Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 25 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Concord's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Lake Norman Charter, their record now sits at 3-0.
Concord was dealt a bruising 63-36 loss at the hands of Lake Norman Charter when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Long, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 17 boards.
