Lincoln Southwest scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Lincoln Southeast, 13-10. At the time, the Knights were ranked 21st in the state, while the Silver Hawk were 79th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lincoln Southwest, who took down 21st ranked Lincoln Southeast, 13-10.
Noah Appleget made the biggest impact on defense this week as Pius X lost to Norfolk. He grabbed 2 interceptions.
Jesse Johnson was the most successful running back in A District 5 this week. He ran for 69 yards on 11 carries as Lincoln East lost to the Panthers. Teammate Greg Dittman added to the ground attack by rushing for 33 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Pius X's Zach Petitt and Appleget have proven to be a lethal combination. Petitt has thrown for 530 yards this season, while Appleget has 19 catches for 342 yards. Ryan Gottula's team's Hunter Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 375.
At the moment, the Spartans are in second, while Tim Aylward's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Lincoln East and the Thunderbolts face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, John Gingery's team comes in having scored 145 this season, while Pius X has scored 137. The Spartans scored 37 points last week as they bested Lincoln Northeast.
Ethan Andersen and Appleget provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Norfolk. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
